On August 9, 2026, Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi, conferred the highly distinguished title of “Vedānta Vidyā Viśvaguru” upon Mahāmahopādhyāya Bhadreshdas Swami. This honor was awarded in recognition of Swamiji’s extraordinary contributions to the study, research, and global promotion of Vedānta, Sanskrit literature, and the Indian knowledge tradition.
Inspired by Param Pujya Pramukh Swami Maharaj, Mahāmahopādhyāya Bhadreshdas Swami authored classical Sanskrit commentaries (bhāṣyas) on the entire Prasthānatrayī—the Upaniṣads, the Brahma Sūtras, and the Śrīmad Bhagavad Gītā—making him a living commentator (bhāṣyakāra) of the modern era. Mahāmahopādhyāya Bhadreshdas Swami is also a world-renowned philosopher. Today, under the guidance of Param Pujya Mahant Swami Maharaj, he continues to promote Indian scriptures and philosophical traditions worldwide.
The event took place at Akshardham, New Delhi. The event was attended by Param Pujya Śrī Śrī Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji of the Pejavara Adhokshaja Matha in Udupi; Prof. Srinivasa Varkhedi, Vice-Chancellor of Central Sanskrit University; Prof. Sukanta Kumar Senapati, Vice-Chancellor of Shree Somnath Sanskrit University; Prof. V. Narayanan; Prof. Omnath Bimli; Prof. Muralikrishna; Prof. Ganesh T. Pandit; and other distinguished scholars.
On this occasion, Param Pujya Śrī Śrī Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swami Maharaj, a revered saint of the Madhvacharya tradition, praised Mahāmahopādhyāya Bhadreshdas Swami’s philosophical brilliance and highlighted the true significance of the award.
Prof. Srinivasa Varkhedi, Vice-Chancellor of Central Sanskrit University, elaborated on the reason for conferring this honor, stating that Mahāmahopādhyāya Bhadreshdas Swami’s contribution in firmly establishing the classical framework of Akṣara-Puruṣottama Darśana within the Sanskrit Prasthānatrayī tradition is particularly remarkable.
Expressing his sentiments, Prof. Sukanta Kumar Senapati, Vice-Chancellor of Shree Somnath Sanskrit University, shared that Mahāmahopādhyāya Bhadreshdas Swami has become a globally renowned scholar today owing to the grace and blessings of his gurus, Pramukh Swami Maharaj and Mahant Swami Maharaj.
Prof. V. Narayanan read out the official citation (sanmāna-patra), and all present warmly welcomed this distinguished honor with enthusiastic applause.
In his acceptance address, Mahāmahopādhyāya Bhadreshdas Swami dedicated the honor at the feet of Bhagwan Swaminarayan and to his gurus, Pramukh Swami Maharaj and Mahant Swami Maharaj.
As Central Sanskrit University is widely recognized among the premier Sanskrit institutions globally, this conferment marks a moment of immense joy and pride for the global Sanskrit and Vedānta communities.
