The Svāminārāyaṇa Saṃpradāya’s Tradition of Education

Abstract

The BAPS Swaminarayan Research Journal is published by the BAPS Swaminarayan Research Institute. This article presents a historical framework of the journal by considering the tradition of education within the Svāminārāyaṇa saṃpradāya. By analysing Swaminarayan (Svāminārāyaṇa) and the guṇātīta gurus’ interest in a wide range of scholarly learning, their efforts to promote and facilitate such learning, and their eagerness to encourage its expression, this work intends to 1) provide an approximation of the scope of subjects pertinent to the content of the journal and 2) offer an overview of the foundational values of the journal and the tradition’s scholarly institutions.
