This edition continues to reflect our journal’s commitment to fostering scholarly inquiry into the philosophical, theological, and cultural dimensions of Indian thought and related fields. The articles in this issue collectively explore themes of tradition and modernity, sacred space and identity, ecological responsibility, philosophical analysis, and scriptural interpretation, offering diverse perspectives that enrich our understanding of the enduring darśanic traditions. I would like to introduce this issue by providing a quick overview of each article, offering key insights into the diverse and thought-provoking discussions presented in this issue.

The first article, “Reconciling Mandir Identities and its Functions,” explores the profound paradox inherent in the mandir: a structure that is simultaneously an earthly construct and a divine sanctuary. Drawing on the global network of Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) mandirs as a case study, the discussion reveals how these sacred sites navigate diverse cultural contexts while preserving their darśanic essence. The article emphasizes the role of intricate architectural design and multi-functional spaces in manifesting the Akṣara-Puruṣottama Darśana philosophy. By fostering spiritual engagement and cultivating a unified identity, these mandirs transcend geographical boundaries, offering a compelling model for sacred spaces in a globalized world.

Following this exploration of mandir identities and functions, the second article: “Innovative Traditional Spaces – Integrating Technology with Traditional Mandir Spaces,” turns its attention to the dynamic interplay between tradition and innovation within sacred spaces. Focusing on the Swaminarayan Akshardham in New Delhi, the article highlights how modern technological advancements enhance the planning, creation, and functionality of mandir spaces. By demonstrating how innovations in construction technologies and immersive sensory experiences can deepen religious engagement while preserving timeless values, the article offers valuable insights for re-imagining the future of these sacred institutions.

Thereafter, the third article, titled “Nature According to Akṣara-Puruṣottama Darśana: An Eco-Theological Reflection on Creation, Responsibility, and Practice,” shifts focus to the natural world, presenting a perspective on spiritual ecology grounded in the Akṣara-Puruṣottama Darśana. It thoughtfully examines the theological foundations of creation and humanity’s responsibilities toward the environment, framing nature as inherently sacred rather than a mere resource for exploitation. By drawing connections between scriptural insights and contemporary environmental challenges, the article demonstrates how this philosophical framework fosters ecological reverence and ethical stewardship. Through this lens, the piece underscores the transformative potential of spiritual responsibility in addressing global environmental concerns.

Turning from the ecological to the philosophical, the fourth article, “मध्वाचार्याणां तत्त्ववादः,” offers a profound examination of Madhvācārya’s enduring contributions to Indian thought through the Tattvavāda tradition. The discussion highlights his theological innovations, scriptural commentaries, and efforts to reconcile devotion, knowledge, and action as complementary paths to liberation. By situating Madhvācārya’s teachings within a historical and philosophical context, the article underscores his transformative influence on the Indian intellectual tradition and the continued relevance of his ideas.

Concluding the issue, the fifth article, “श्रीपुरुषोत्तमक्षेत्ररहस्यम्,” focuses on the sacred geography of India with an investigation of Shri Jagannath Puri, one of the nation’s foremost pilgrimage sites. Drawing extensively from classical texts, the article discusses the philosophical and spiritual dimensions of this revered locale, emphasizing its significance in safeguarding India’s spiritual heritage. Beyond its historical insights, the article also engages with contemporary concerns, advocating for the restoration and revitalization of sacred spaces through renewed engagement with scriptural traditions.
